At 100 three-minute calls a month, LEX Reception costs $450 and Go Answer, the lowest-priced alternative in this table at that volume, costs $345 (prices checked October 12, 2026). The right replacement also depends on intake depth, billing increments and your ability to keep the phone number.

What does LEX Reception cost?

LEX starts at $425/month (150 minutes). At 50, 100 and 200 three-minute calls a month, its cheapest published plans for those volumes cost $425, $450 and $1,000. Its direct plans page publishes the prices, while its regular registration path asks for contact details. The LEX Reception pricing analysis covers every plan and fee.

The direct plans page distinguishes Entry's "Basic scripting" from Best value's "Custom scripting" and appointment scheduling (read October 9, 2026). A firm pricing intake work should check which script and scheduling features its chosen plan includes. This difference is easy to miss if you compare entry prices alone.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus published overage, at 3-minute calls. Taxes, pass-through fees, setup fees and add-ons are excluded. Answering Legal provides a quote instead of a public plan price. How we price.

Are AnswerConnect and AnswerForce LEX alternatives?

They are other brands of the same company, so this table does not count them as alternatives from another company. LEX's terms call the provider "AnywhereWorks, Inc. dba LEX Reception" (read October 7, 2026). The AnswerConnect terms and AnswerForce terms name the same corporation under their brands (read October 7, 2026). Their plans and service scope can still differ. Compare them on the ownership map, not as separate companies bidding for your account.

What does each alternative do better and worse?

Better: Legal intake, bilingual reception and integrations are described as included in every plan on Answering Legal's billing page (read October 7, 2026). Its LEX comparison says it tracks usage by the second, while LEX rounds calls to whole minutes. The comparison claim comes from Answering Legal, not its contract.

Worse: It gives no current public plan price or overage rate. Its billing page says a quote follows a demo or trial (read October 7, 2026). You cannot check its cost against LEX without a written quote. See the Answering Legal pricing analysis.

Go Answer

Better: At 100 three-minute calls, Go Answer costs $345 against LEX's $450. Go Answer's terms say it counts usage "in one second increments" (read October 7, 2026). Its published live plans also permit a dedicated legal receptionist and extended intake as an add-on.

Worse: That legal add-on has a separate fee on the pricing page, which our table excludes. Its FAQ asks for written cancellation notice even while the pricing page says you can cancel at any time (read October 7, 2026). Ask which rule governs your account.

MAP Communications

Better: MAP is the lowest-priced alternative in this table at 50 three-minute calls, $211.50 against LEX's $425. Its pricing page publishes the plan schedule (read October 12, 2026).

Worse: MAP's terms count "any time a receptionist spends completing any information on your call after the caller has hung up" (read October 7, 2026). The index models three-minute calls, without extra wrap-up. Its legal-specialist fit and software workflow need to be checked in the sales process.

PATLive

Better: PATLive costs $293.50 at 50 three-minute calls, below LEX's $425. Its terms say there is no charge "for any time after a receptionist is disconnected" (read October 7, 2026).

Worse: At 100 such calls, LEX costs $450 and PATLive costs $479. PATLive's pricing page offers general live reception, so check the legal intake script and case management handoff you need. At 200 calls, the published prices reverse again: PATLive $938, LEX $1,000.

Posh

Better: At 50 three-minute calls, Posh costs $322.50 and LEX costs $425. Posh offers a trial described on its pricing page without a card (read October 12, 2026).

Worse: At 100 calls, LEX costs $450 against Posh's $630. Posh's terms round calls up to a whole minute and count after-call work, while its blog describes a different rounding example (both read October 7, 2026). Ask for the contract's billing rule.

Abby Connect

Better: Abby's terms say each part of a call is timed by the second and the total rounds to a shorter increment than LEX uses (read October 7, 2026). A number you bring to Abby stays yours under those terms. This can matter if you expect to switch again.

Worse: At 100 three-minute calls, Abby costs $898 against LEX's $450. Abby's same terms include ring time and transfer time in billable usage. Its live receptionist hours are narrower than LEX's published round-the-clock service, with AI covering other hours.

Ruby

Better: Ruby offers legal reception and a Clio listing for firms that use that software (read October 9, 2026). Ruby's terms say a business number can be ported out while the account is in good standing (read October 7, 2026).

Worse: Ruby costs $1,160 at 100 three-minute calls, while LEX costs $450. Ruby rounds up per call and counts hold and after-call work, per its terms. A plan upgrade can remain for later billing cycles, so a temporary intake surge needs a contract check.

Smith.ai Virtual Receptionists

Better: Smith.ai bills per call, rather than by the minute. Its terms exclude spam, misdials and callers who leave no message from the count if caller ID passes (read October 7, 2026). A Clio App Directory listing documents its legal software connection (read October 9, 2026).

Worse: At 100 three-minute calls, Smith.ai costs $915 against LEX's $450. Smith.ai's extended intake condition requires those calls to average no more than 120 seconds, per its pricing terms. Ask how your real intake lengths would be handled.

Where is LEX Reception still the better fit?

LEX publishes legal intake, Clio integration and a MyCase integration (read October 7, 2026). Its plan page includes legal tech integrations across tiers, though the scripting and scheduling features differ. If calls must move into one of those systems, test the exact field mapping and whether the plan you choose includes the needed workflow.

It can also cost less than some alternatives at a specific volume. At 100 three-minute calls, LEX's $450 is below Posh's $630, Abby's $898, Ruby's $1,160 and Smith.ai's $915. None of these figures includes paid add-ons or setup.

Which alternative fits which situation?

Go Answer is the lowest-priced alternative here at 100 three-minute calls, $345, before its dedicated legal intake add-on. Obtain the add-on quote for your intake workflow; the table is the shared receptionist plan.

Short, predictable call volume: MAP Communications

MAP's published $211.50 at 50 three-minute calls is the lowest among the priced alternatives in this table at that volume. Its after-call work counts, so compare a sample invoice if you have long case summaries.

Per-call billing and spam exclusions: Smith.ai

Smith.ai's $915 at 100 calls buys a per-call model with the stated spam exclusion. It needs scrutiny for extended intake, which can run past the average call-length condition.

Answering Legal says it serves law firms and includes intake tools in its plans. Ask it for a written quote at your expected monthly calls and minutes. Its published pricing path supplies no current monthly number, so this page does not rank it by cost.

How do you switch from LEX without losing calls?

  1. Check the number first. The LEX terms we read do not state a port-out right or who owns an assigned number (read October 7, 2026). Ask LEX in writing before changing your public number or ending service.
  2. Read the term and final-month rule. The US terms say either side can end the monthly agreement by written notice. They also charge for "each whole or partial month" of service (read October 7, 2026). Choose a date near renewal and keep proof of notice.
  3. Move the call flow while both services are live. Give the new provider your intake questions, routing rules and practice software workflow. Test urgent, bilingual, existing-client and new-lead calls from an outside phone.
  4. Switch forwarding and verify delivery. Check where missed transfers land and whether notes reach the right matter. Only then send LEX written cancellation and review the final invoice for overage, which its terms allow it to charge immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is cheaper than LEX Reception?

At 100 three-minute calls, Go Answer costs $345 and MAP Communications costs $403, both less than LEX's $450. At 50 calls, PATLive and Posh also cost less; the table shows the volume change. Answering Legal has no public cost to compare.

No shared owner is stated in the companies' terms. LEX's contract names AnywhereWorks, Inc. as its provider, while Answering Legal's terms define the contracting company as Answering Legal (read October 7, 2026). Compare their intake workflows and request Answering Legal's price in writing.

Does LEX Reception round calls up?

Yes. LEX's FAQ says a call lasting 2 minutes 28 seconds is recorded as 3 minutes, and its terms require whole-minute billing (read October 7, 2026). Hold and transfer time also count.

Can I keep my number if I leave LEX Reception?

The published LEX terms we read do not specify a port-out right or ownership of an assigned number (read October 7, 2026). Ask LEX to confirm your number's ownership and porting options in writing before you cancel.

Are AnswerConnect and AnswerForce LEX competitors from another company?

No. Each brand's published terms names AnywhereWorks, Inc. as the company behind the service (LEX, AnswerConnect, AnswerForce, read October 7, 2026). Their prices and features can differ, but choosing one is not a switch to another company.

How these prices were read

Every price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page, on the date in its Source cell, and saved as a dated capture. Monthly plans use the cheapest published plan plus overage at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows the least upfront prepaid credit purchase covering that call volume; unused credits roll over. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Its terms charge wrong numbers and hangups, contrary to its price page. ReceptionHQ MessageExpress named in full. Specialty Answering Service cancellation summary and setup-fee summaries corrected. AI product terms added for Go Answer, Moneypenny and Smith.ai. The initial AnswerForce text capture appeared to stop at 1,000 minutes; the larger plans were later found in saved page JavaScript.
  • Published plans that were on pages already read but missing here. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus added as its own live row (messages and call transfers, no scope note; read October 5, 2026): from $35 a month plus $2.99 a call to $2,440 for 1,000 calls, from its ReceptionistPlus page and the price table in ReceptionHQ's terms (read October 7, 2026), with its own billing terms ($0.30 a call after hours, $0.30 per transfer). Ruby: 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 minutes ($4,945, $6,400 and $7,875, overage $3.50 to $3.30 a minute) from its help center (read October 7, 2026).
  • Plans and rates that were on the captured pages but missing here: My AI Front Desk overage $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01), Go Answer 750 minutes ($825), AnswerForce 800 minutes ($1,069), ReceptionHQ MessageExpress 400 and 500 calls ($610 and $725), and ReceptionHQ's $0.20 after-hours surcharge per MessageExpress call.
  • Billing terms added for 18 providers from their terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial. Alert Communications added (law firms only, kept out of the ranges). AnswerForce prices added from its /plans-direct page (Intro $349 for 200 minutes, Best value $389 for 300). VoiceNation now redirects to Moneypenny.
  • Ruby: overage rates added from its help center ($5.40/min on the 50-minute plan down to $3.65 on 1,000 minutes), plus the 350, 750 and 1,000 minute plans published there. Ruby's pricing page still shows no overage rate. Abby Professional overage corrected to $2.99 per Abby Minute (its terms and help center), from $3.00 computed as price divided by minutes.
  • Sameday AI added (home services only, read October 5, 2026): Launch from $449/month with 500 minutes, Scale from $789/month with 1,000 minutes. Like Slang.ai, it is listed but kept out of the category ranges because it serves one vertical.
  • First edition: 30 providers read from their own pricing pages. AnswerConnect, AnswerForce, LEX Reception, Answering Legal and Nexa ask for a form or a sales call before showing a price, so they are listed as quote only. VoiceNation publishes the same plan table as Moneypenny (US), so that table is listed once, under Moneypenny.
