Nexa does not publish a price for its answering plans as of October 12, 2026. Ten alternatives outside Nexa in this table publish prices; at 100 three-minute calls, their costs run from $345 for Go Answer to $1,160 for Ruby. Nexa's quote may fall anywhere in or outside that span.

What does Nexa cost?

Nexa lists plans with 100, 300 and 500 voice minutes but gives no monthly price or overage rate on its pricing page, read October 5, 2026. Its entry price and costs at 50, 100 and 200 three-minute calls are therefore quote only, quote only, quote only and quote only. Our Nexa pricing page examines the plans and terms.

The quote needs more than a monthly fee. Nexa's terms, read October 7, 2026, bill whole minutes, rounded up. Its clock includes hold while a receptionist attempts a transfer, outbound ringing and work after the caller hangs up. The terms also permit system time billed as a percentage of work or talk time, a separate percentage service fee, holiday fees and a nonrefundable setup fee. Nexa does not publish their amounts on its pricing page.

Our arithmetic: we choose each service's least costly published plan at each volume, then add published overage for three-minute calls. The calculation excludes setup fees, taxes, pass-through charges and optional add-ons. A quote-only cell is not an estimate. How we price.

The prices do not measure how a receptionist handles your callers. For a buying decision, ask each provider to run your actual call logs through its billing rules. Our cost calculator can vary call length and volume; it cannot price Nexa without a quote.

Is Alert Communications an alternative to Nexa?

No. Nexa says on its about page, read October 7, 2026, that it acquired Alert Communications. Alert's contract, read the same day, identifies a Nexa entity as a possible contracting party. Alert publishes its own plan cards, but a buyer seeking a provider outside Nexa should not count Alert as a separate choice.

Alert and Nexa also use parallel contract language for whole-minute rounding, holiday charges, percentage service fees, card surcharges and cancellation notice. Those shared terms matter even if an Alert quote looks different. Compare the actual service plan and contracting entity, not just the brand on the website.

What does each alternative do better and worse?

Go Answer

Strength: Go Answer bills in one-second increments under its terms, read October 7, 2026, while Nexa rounds up to whole minutes. At 100 three-minute calls, Go Answer costs $345, the lowest published amount among the ten alternatives in this table.

Catch: Go Answer's FAQ, read October 7, 2026, says summary and disconnection time counts. Its pricing page says there are no setup fees, while its terms allow a setup fee. Ask which provision the order form follows. Our Go Answer pricing review details the conflict.

MAP Communications

Strength: MAP publishes per-minute plans and an English and Spanish offering on its pricing page, read October 5, 2026. At 50 three-minute calls, it costs $211.50, the lowest published amount in this table at that volume.

Catch: MAP's terms, read October 7, 2026, include after-call work in billable time and round partial minutes up. They also permit a holiday fee and additional telecom, compliance and technology fees. Get the full fee list in writing.

Specialty Answering Service

Strength: Specialty's terms, read October 7, 2026, count billable time in seconds. Its published plan costs $384.20 at 100 three-minute calls.

Catch: The registration FAQ, read October 7, 2026, asks for cancellation notice, while the terms deny proration for the month of cancellation. The terms also authorize a plan upgrade to match usage. Confirm the upgrade rule before a seasonal surge.

AnswerForce

Strength: Its published direct plan page gives a 100-call cost of $389. That is less than AnswerConnect's $395 for the same 100 three-minute calls. AnswerForce also publishes home-service integrations on its integration page, read October 7, 2026.

Catch: Its terms, read October 7, 2026, set a 90-day minimum despite the support center's month-by-month description. Hold, transfers and after-call work use minutes, with whole-minute rounding. AnswerForce shares an owner with AnswerConnect and LEX Reception, not with Nexa.

AnswerConnect

Strength: AnswerConnect lists 24/7 live answering and live chat on its service page, read October 7, 2026. The published direct plans yield $395 at 100 three-minute calls.

Catch: Its terms, read October 7, 2026, impose a 90-day minimum and a whole monthly charge for any partial month. The billing help center, read the same day, includes after-call work. Read our AnswerConnect pricing page for the plan math.

Answering Service Care

Strength: Its pricing page, read October 9, 2026, publishes live answering plans and an English and Spanish offering. At 100 three-minute calls, its indexed plan costs $409.

Catch: Its terms, read October 9, 2026, include pre-answer system time and post-call work in whole rounded minutes. The terms require a full billing period of written cancellation notice and describe an annual maintenance fee whose amount is not on the pricing page.

PATLive

Strength: PATLive's terms, read October 7, 2026, stop billing when the receptionist disconnects and use six-second increments after a one-minute minimum. Its 100-call cost is $479.

Catch: Hold during lookup or transfer is billed. PATLive's terms say a number left on the account becomes its property after cancellation, so port a number out before closing the account. Its PATLive alternatives page compares that rule with other providers.

Ruby

Strength: Ruby's pricing page, read October 5, 2026, publishes plans and bilingual call handling. It also offers live chat. The indexed cost at 100 three-minute calls is $1,160.

Catch: Ruby's terms, read October 7, 2026, round calls up to whole minutes and include hold and after-call work. Upgrades apply through at least the next two billing periods. At 100 three-minute calls, PATLive's $479 costs less than Ruby's $1,160.

Smith.ai Virtual Receptionists

Strength: Smith.ai charges by call rather than by receptionist minute, so the published 100-call cost is $915 regardless of the three-minute comparison length, within its reasonable use policy, read October 7, 2026. Long intake calls still need a scope check.

Catch: Smith.ai's receptionist terms, read October 7, 2026, require cancellation notice at least 30 days before a subscription cycle ends. Booking and follow-up add-ons can apply per call across the whole plan, as its help center explains.

Abby Connect

Strength: Abby offers a human and AI answering mix. Its terms, read October 7, 2026, use 30-second billing increments for human calls, including ringing and transfer time. At 100 three-minute calls, its indexed cost is $898.

Catch: Standard human hours are shorter than AI availability, under those same terms. A business requiring a person overnight must confirm its exact configuration. The terms also permit an automatic enterprise upgrade after heavy usage and require advance cancellation notice.

Where does Nexa fit better?

Nexa gives buyers a mix of people and AI. Its Voice + AI page, read October 7, 2026, describes human-first, AI-first and mixed modes. Its integrations page, read the same day, shows tools for legal intake and home services. If your workflow needs those connections, ask Nexa to demonstrate the exact data handoff with your account.

Its terms also permit an AI agent on an account unless the client opts out on its service plan or in writing. A buyer seeking human answering should get that choice in the signed plan. Nexa's quote-only price means we cannot say when it costs less than any alternative here. Request a written quote using your call count, minutes, after-call work and holiday traffic.

Which alternative fits which situation?

Published cost at 100 calls: Go Answer. At 100 three-minute calls, its $345 is the lowest in this table of priced alternatives. Its setup-fee documents conflict, so confirm the signed charge.

Published cost at 50 calls: MAP Communications. At 50 three-minute calls, its $211.50 is the lowest in this table. Whole-minute rounding and after-call work may move an actual bill above the model.

Per-call billing: Smith.ai. Its 100-call plan costs $915 in our model. Ask whether your intake length falls under its reasonable use policy and price every add-on.

Human plus AI: Abby Connect. The indexed 100-call cost is $898. Confirm whether your overnight calls reach a human or AI.

How do you switch from Nexa without losing calls?

  1. Find out whose number callers dial. Nexa's terms, read October 7, 2026, say clients do not have property rights to numbers Nexa assigns. Identify any number you brought to Nexa and get the porting process in writing before cancelling.
  2. Check the service plan term. The default is month-to-month, but the service plan can set another term. Nexa requires a written cancellation request at least one month before the next invoice due date. A partial month can be billed as a whole month.
  3. Set up the replacement while Nexa still answers. Run inbound, after-hours, transfer and scheduling calls through the new script. Check where messages arrive.
  4. Move forwarding and verify from outside your office. Send written cancellation on time and compare the final invoice against the service plan. Nexa says subscription fees are nonrefundable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Nexa alternative has the lowest published cost?

At 100 three-minute calls, Go Answer costs $345, the lowest among the ten priced alternatives in this table. At 50 such calls, MAP Communications costs $211.50, the lowest in this table at that volume. Neither figure predicts Nexa's quote.

Does Nexa publish its answering service price?

No. Nexa's pricing page, read October 5, 2026, shows minute bundles but no monthly amount or overage rate. At 100 three-minute calls, its cost is quote only until Nexa supplies a service plan.

Is Alert Communications a separate Nexa competitor?

No. Nexa says it acquired Alert Communications on its about page, read October 7, 2026. Alert may sell a different plan, but it is inside the Nexa group. A buyer who wants a separate company should compare the ten alternatives in this page's table.

How is a Nexa receptionist different from an AI answering service?

Nexa sells live receptionist plans and a Voice + AI mix. Its terms, read October 7, 2026, allow it to use an AI agent unless a client opts out in writing or on the service plan. Ask who handles each call type and how AI time is billed before signing.

How these prices were read

Every price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page, on the date in its Source cell, and saved as a dated capture. Monthly plans use the cheapest published plan plus overage at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows the least upfront prepaid credit purchase covering that call volume; unused credits roll over. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Its terms charge wrong numbers and hangups, contrary to its price page. ReceptionHQ MessageExpress named in full. Specialty Answering Service cancellation summary and setup-fee summaries corrected. AI product terms added for Go Answer, Moneypenny and Smith.ai. The initial AnswerForce text capture appeared to stop at 1,000 minutes; the larger plans were later found in saved page JavaScript.
  • Published plans that were on pages already read but missing here. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus added as its own live row (messages and call transfers, no scope note; read October 5, 2026): from $35 a month plus $2.99 a call to $2,440 for 1,000 calls, from its ReceptionistPlus page and the price table in ReceptionHQ's terms (read October 7, 2026), with its own billing terms ($0.30 a call after hours, $0.30 per transfer). Go Answer: 1,700, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($1,870, $2,750, $5,500 and $11,000, overage $1.40 and $1.25 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026). Ruby: 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 minutes ($4,945, $6,400 and $7,875, overage $3.50 to $3.30 a minute) from its help center (read October 7, 2026).
  • Plans and rates that were on the captured pages but missing here: My AI Front Desk overage $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01), Go Answer 750 minutes ($825), AnswerForce 800 minutes ($1,069), ReceptionHQ MessageExpress 400 and 500 calls ($610 and $725), and ReceptionHQ's $0.20 after-hours surcharge per MessageExpress call.
  • Billing terms added for 18 providers from their terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial. Alert Communications added (law firms only, kept out of the ranges). AnswerForce prices added from its /plans-direct page (Intro $349 for 200 minutes, Best value $389 for 300). VoiceNation now redirects to Moneypenny.
  • Ruby: overage rates added from its help center ($5.40/min on the 50-minute plan down to $3.65 on 1,000 minutes), plus the 350, 750 and 1,000 minute plans published there. Ruby's pricing page still shows no overage rate. Abby Professional overage corrected to $2.99 per Abby Minute (its terms and help center), from $3.00 computed as price divided by minutes.
  • Sameday AI added (home services only, read October 5, 2026): Launch from $449/month with 500 minutes, Scale from $789/month with 1,000 minutes. Like Slang.ai, it is listed but kept out of the category ranges because it serves one vertical.
  • First edition: 30 providers read from their own pricing pages. AnswerConnect, AnswerForce, LEX Reception, Answering Legal and Nexa ask for a form or a sales call before showing a price, so they are listed as quote only. VoiceNation publishes the same plan table as Moneypenny (US), so that table is listed once, under Moneypenny.
