Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Taxes, pass-through fees, setup fees and add-ons are excluded. How we price.

Both companies sell live receptionist time. PATLive's pricing page publishes its plans. AnswerConnect's main pricing path asks for contact details, but its direct plan page and linked PDF publish prices (read October 9, 2026). The costs above use those direct prices. For every plan and allowance, see PATLive pricing and AnswerConnect pricing.

Where does PATLive cost less?

At 50 three-minute calls a month, PATLive costs $293.50 against AnswerConnect's $350. PATLive's 100-minute plan plus overage is the cheaper combination at that volume. AnswerConnect's Entry plan includes more minutes than the modeled 50 calls use, but its base charge still applies.

At this volume, the PATLive model uses 150 minutes. That is a modeled bill, not a promise that every call will use exactly three billed minutes. A caller placed on hold while PATLive attempts a transfer can add billable time. AnswerConnect also bills hold and patch time and can add receptionist work after the call. Those rules can change the real total without changing the published plan rate.

PATLive's terms say it bills "in six-second increments, with a one-minute minimum" (read October 7, 2026). For a call that lasts more than a minute, that gives smaller rounding steps than AnswerConnect's full-minute rule. It does not make a brief call free.

Where does AnswerConnect cost less?

At 100 three-minute calls a month, AnswerConnect costs $395 on its Growth plan, against PATLive's $479 on its 300-minute plan. At 200 calls, AnswerConnect costs $887.50 and PATLive $938. The cheaper service changes as usage crosses plan boundaries, so decide from your own call log rather than one headline entry rate.

AnswerConnect's Growth plan contains 300 minutes and says there is no setup fee. Its Entry and Standard plans list a setup fee. The pricing PDF also lists paid Spanish answering, transcriptions, operator relay and phone menu routing (read October 9, 2026). None of these add-ons is in the modeled cost. Ask which are active on your quote.

The three-minute model also excludes any time AnswerConnect spends writing up a message after the caller disconnects. Its billing guide expressly counts after-call work (read October 7, 2026). A business with detailed intake should sample actual billed minutes before relying on the 100-call comparison.

How does each service count a minute?

PATLive's terms start the clock when a receptionist answers and stop it when that receptionist disconnects. They say, "All receptionist minutes are billed in six-second increments, with a one-minute minimum." Hold time while the receptionist looks something up or attempts a transfer counts. Time in queue and time after the receptionist leaves do not count under the quoted terms (read October 7, 2026).

AnswerConnect's terms say "any partial minutes will be rounded up to the nearest whole minute." Its billing guide counts after-call work. The terms count hold and patching time too. Queue time before a receptionist answers is excluded (read October 7, 2026).

For example, a call lasting one minute and 25 seconds uses two billed minutes in AnswerConnect's own example. Under PATLive's stated increment, the same uninterrupted talk time would use one minute and 30 seconds. This example isolates rounding. It does not include hold, transfer or after-call work.

Short unwanted calls make the difference sharper. AnswerConnect says the first 30 calls shorter than 30 seconds in a billing cycle are free, including wrong numbers and spam. Later short calls count toward the bill (wrong-number guide, read October 7, 2026). PATLive publishes no matching call exemption. Its one-minute minimum applies when a receptionist answers, although its terms allow blocking repeated spam numbers. This comparison of short-call treatment is a reason to inspect your call mix, not just your monthly call count.

What are the catches in each contract?

PATLive

PATLive says it bills month to month and offers a 14-day trial. Its terms say the trial needs a card and "will automatically convert to a paid account" if you do not cancel (read October 7, 2026). The trial terms also let PATLive refuse a trial connected to an advertising campaign that could briefly raise call volume.

PATLive's pricing page says prices exclude taxes and fees. Its fee guide lists telecom and compliance charges whose amount depends on the account (read October 7, 2026). Those charges do not appear in our table.

If you take a PATLive-provided number, finish a port out before closing the account. The terms say numbers left on the account "become property of PATLive and may not be available for porting or reuse once a cancellation is effective" (read October 7, 2026). PATLive alternatives covers the steps.

AnswerConnect

AnswerConnect's Why page says "No fixed contract. We don't need a commitment" (read October 7, 2026). Its terms instead set "a minimum period of 90 calendar days". After that, cancellation requires written notice. The terms also bill each whole or partial month in full. Get the end date and notice process in writing before signing.

AnswerConnect can bill overage before a cycle ends. Its billing guide explains when a mid-cycle card charge happens (read October 7, 2026). Outbound calls and live chat also draw from the call plan's shared minutes (outbound calls; live chat billing, read October 7, 2026). If you use these services, the call-only cost table will understate usage.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose PATLive for lower modeled usage and a shorter commitment: at 50 three-minute calls, it costs $293.50 against AnswerConnect's $350. Its month-to-month terms and trial also offer a way to measure your call length before committing.
  • Choose AnswerConnect if your call log resembles the 100-call or 200-call model: it costs $395 against PATLive's $479 at 100 three-minute calls. At 200, the costs are $887.50 and $938. Check the written term and billable after-call minutes first.
  • If short spam calls dominate: compare AnswerConnect's limited short-call exemption with PATLive's one-minute minimum. Ask each vendor to explain how your own call log would have been billed.

Other priced services to compare

These services have published prices, but their billing and features differ. Go Answer bills by the second but counts message summary and disconnection time. Ruby rounds by the whole minute. MAP Communications counts after-call work. Use the same three-minute call model for an initial comparison, then read each term.

At 100 three-minute calls, Go Answer costs $345, less than either PATLive or AnswerConnect at that volume. Its pricing page explains the plan, and the wider comparison covers more services. AnswerConnect's sister brand AnswerForce has its own pricing page; its terms and AnswerConnect's terms both name AnywhereWorks, Inc. as the contracting company (read October 7, 2026). It is another brand under the same company.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does PATLive or AnswerConnect round up calls?

Both do. PATLive bills a full first minute, then rounds to six-second steps. AnswerConnect rounds each interaction to a whole minute and includes after-call work. Both bill hold time while a receptionist handles the call. Their terms and billing guide explain the meter (read October 7, 2026).

Does AnswerConnect have a contract?

Its marketing says no fixed contract, but its terms of service set a 90-day minimum and require written notice after that period (read October 7, 2026). Ask for the agreement and the last bill date before starting.

Which service has a free trial?

PATLive offers a 14-day trial that requires a card and converts automatically unless you cancel. AnswerConnect does not publish a trial in the pages we read. See each service's trial and plans pages (read October 7 and October 9, 2026).

Are spam calls billed by PATLive and AnswerConnect?

PATLive publishes no exemption for spam calls answered by a receptionist, and its minimum billed call is one minute. AnswerConnect excludes the first 30 calls under 30 seconds in a cycle, including spam and wrong numbers. Additional short calls count. Longer spam calls do not meet that exemption (PATLive terms; AnswerConnect guide, read October 7, 2026).

How these prices were read

Every price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page, on the date in its Source cell, and saved as a dated capture. Monthly plans use the cheapest published plan plus overage at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows the least upfront prepaid credit purchase covering that call volume; unused credits roll over. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.
