AnswerFirst Pricing 2026: Per-Minute Rates, Fees and Contract Terms
Published . Updated . Prices checked October 12, 2026.

Key takeaways
- AnswerFirst starts at $30/month (pay per use at $1.60 to $1.95/min); 100 three-minute calls a month cost $510 to $615 (prices checked October 12, 2026).
- AnswerFirst bills spam and robocalls at its live rate and says it cannot block numbers, and its one-second meter also runs for message processing and research.
- At 10 three-minute calls a month, two ReceptionHQ plans, Alert and AnswerAmerica cost less than AnswerFirst; AnswerAmerica is prepaid message-taking with no transfers.
- AnswerFirst does not publish the usage bands that set your rate, and its own comparison page prints two different rate ranges for itself.
- Its FAQ says it does not require a contract, but its terms tie each plan to a Contract Period set in your Proposal for Service.
AnswerFirst starts at $30/month (pay per use at $1.60 to $1.95/min), and 100 three-minute calls a month cost $510 to $615 on its pay-as-you-go plan (prices checked October 12, 2026). The cost is a range because AnswerFirst lowers the rate as usage grows, in bands it does not publish.

Source: answerfirst.com/pricing, read Oct 12, 2026. AnswerFirst sells one plan with no bundle of minutes: "No plans. No guesswork. No overage fees." Its pricing page says "Our per-minute rate automatically decreases as your usage increases." The detail sits in a "Pricing & Info Packet": you fill in a form with your name, email, company, phone and industry, and "a Business Development Specialist will reach out via email." (answerfirst.com/pricing, read October 5, 2026).
The same page includes one forwarding number and charges for extras. Taxes are on top. The terms say "You remain solely responsible for any sales, use, or similar taxes imposed by your state or local taxing authority." (answerfirst.com/terms-of-service, read October 7, 2026)
What AnswerFirst costs from 10 to 200 calls a month
| Calls a month | Monthly cost | Per call | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $78 to $88.50 | $7.80 to $8.85 a call | $936 to $1,062 |
| 50 | $270 to $322.50 | $5.40 to $6.45 a call | $3,240 to $3,870 |
| 100 | $510 to $615 | $5.10 to $6.15 a call | $6,120 to $7,380 |
| 200 | $990 to $1,200 | $4.95 to $6.00 a call | $11,880 to $14,400 |
Our arithmetic: AnswerFirst's published base fee plus its published per-minute rate, at 3-minute calls. Taxes, pass-through fees, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
100 three-minute calls are 300 minutes. AnswerFirst charges $30/month plus $1.60 to $1.95 a minute, so 100 calls cost $510 to $615. The low end of each range assumes AnswerFirst's lowest published rate, the high end its highest.
The 10-call row shows small-account costs. At 50 three-minute calls, the modeled range reaches $270 to $322.50.
How AnswerFirst counts a minute
- Billing unit: Per minute
- Rounding: 1 second
- Billed beyond talk time: Message processing, research and account updates; 6 seconds per API call or inbound text; hold and ring time not billed
- Spam and short calls: Billed ("The answer is YES"); numbers cannot be blocked
The terms say: "Usage is billed in one (1)-second increments, subject to the minimum charges specified in your Service Plan." (answerfirst.com/terms-of-service, read October 7, 2026) The pricing page promises "(No Minimum Usage or Commitment to Minute Plans)". Any per-call minimum is in your Service Plan, not on the website.
The meter runs past the conversation. The invoice guide lists "Live Services Billed Per Second: Talk, Message Processing, Delivering & Researching and Account Updating. (You are not charged for Ring or Hold Time)". Software events cost extra time: "Advanced Services Billed At 6 seconds of Live Time Per Event", for API calls, inbound texts and web form submissions (support.answerfirst.com, KB0010081, read October 7, 2026).
A second rate covers transferred calls and voicemail. "This is why we bill at our virtual services per-minute rate during patched calls" (answerfirst.com/how-does-call-patching-work, read October 7, 2026). The virtual rate is not published, nor is the extra rate for toll-free numbers (KB0010081, read October 7, 2026).
Fees, contract and trial
- Setup fee: Charged on every account, amount not published
- Contract: No contract unless the proposal sets one; dedicated agents carry a 2-year minimum
- Trial: No trial; 30-day risk-free guarantee
The setup fee is charged per account, and an account that covers more than one business, time zone or set of office hours means "you will most likely require an additional account" (KB0010284, read October 7, 2026).
Cancelling mid-cycle earns no partial refund: "we will not prorate charges to the date of termination and you will not receive a credit or refund for any unused Services." (terms, read October 7, 2026)
Your phone number stays with AnswerFirst unless you act fast. The terms say "those numbers remain the property of SP." For a number you brought in, you must give written notice "within 5 business days of account termination", and the vendor charges a fee to transfer ownership away from AnswerFirst (KB0010299, read October 7, 2026)
The catch
- "No contract" on the website, a Contract Period in the terms. The FAQ says "No, we do not require you to sign a contract, and you are free to cancel at any time without penalty." (answerfirst.com/faqs, read October 7, 2026) The terms say the plan "continues through the end of the initial 'Contract Period' as indicated in your 'Proposal for Service.'" Renewals can equal that period, and "Dedicated agent programs ... have a two (2)-year minimum" (terms, read October 7, 2026).
- Spam is billed, and AnswerFirst will not block it. "Am I billed for spam, robo calls and solicitation calls? The answer is YES." (KB0010331, read October 7, 2026) "As your answering service, we are unable to block phone numbers/calls." (KB0010121, read October 7, 2026) "Until the call is disconnected your account will be billed in 1 second increments at your per minute, Live Time rate." (KB0010331) More in which answering services charge for spam calls.
- The setup fee "may apply" on the pricing page and applies to every account in the terms. Pricing page: "A one-time charge* may apply for businesses with complex needs" (answerfirst.com/pricing, read October 5, 2026). Terms: "SP charges a one-time setup fee for each Account" (answerfirst.com/terms-of-service, read October 7, 2026). Neither page gives an amount.
- Your rate band is not published, and AnswerFirst prints two ranges. The pricing page says "always billed at the lowest rate you qualify for" (read October 5, 2026) without the volumes that qualify. Its own comparison page lists two conflicting per-minute rate ranges (answerfirst.com/best-answering-services-compared, read October 7, 2026).
- Patched calls run on a meter you cannot price. AnswerFirst's own example of a call put through to you, about 30 seconds live plus 7 minutes patched, is priced in the vendor's example, but the virtual rate is not published (answerfirst.com/how-does-call-patching-work, read October 7, 2026).
- Rates can rise, and recordings may not last. The terms say "SP may update its Rate Schedule, pricing, billing practices, and annual client increases at its discretion". The FAQ says "calls are available for up to 90 days", while the terms say "SP is not obligated to retain voice or call recordings for longer than ten (10) days" (terms and FAQ, read October 7, 2026).
The full list of fees vendors write into their terms is in answering service hidden fees.
Where AnswerFirst is a good buy
Very low volume. At 10 three-minute calls a month, AnswerFirst costs $78 to $88.50. ReceptionHQ's two monthly plans and Alert Communications cost less at that volume. AnswerAmerica also costs less at $50 in prepaid purchases, with unused credits rolling over; it takes messages but does not transfer calls. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus, which transfers calls, covers them on a plan at $39/month for 15 calls (new customer offer, 3 details captured). ReceptionHQ's message-taking MessageExpress costs $44.90, and Alert Communications, which serves law firms alone, $75.
No surcharge for nights, weekends or holidays. The pricing page says "There are no additional fees for nights, weekends, or holidays." (read October 5, 2026)
A published service level with credits. AnswerFirst commits to a platform "available free of outages for 99.9% of the time" and abandonment "equal to or less than 5% during a billing cycle", and on request credits "5% of the billing cycle fee" per hour or point missed (answerfirst.com/service-level-agreement, read October 7, 2026).
A 30-day guarantee instead of a trial. The terms promise to "credit or refund the charges incurred during the Guarantee period" if the service does not work as agreed in your first 30 days (read October 7, 2026).
At 100 three-minute calls, AnswerFirst's whole range sits below Posh at $630.
AnswerFirst against alternatives
Each service below sells pay as you go or bills by the second, as AnswerFirst does.

At 50 three-minute calls, ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus, Go Answer, MAP Communications and Specialty Answering Service each cost less than AnswerFirst's whole range. At 100 and 200 calls, so does PATLive. MAP and Specialty Answering Service also sell pay as you go: MAP charges $49/month plus $1.37 a minute, and Specialty Answering Service $44/month plus $1.54 a minute.
The alternatives have catches too. MAP rounds up to the whole minute and bills after-call work with no published cap. Go Answer's terms charge a setup fee its pricing page denies. ReceptionistPlus charges extra for each transferred call and for calls outside its daytime hours. Every service priced side by side is in answering service pricing, and the answering service cost calculator runs your own call length.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does AnswerFirst cost per month?
AnswerFirst starts at $30/month (pay per use at $1.60 to $1.95/min), on prices checked October 12, 2026. At 100 three-minute calls a month that comes to $510 to $615. The cost is a range because AnswerFirst does not publish the usage bands that set your rate.
Does AnswerFirst charge setup fees?
Yes, according to its terms, which say "SP charges a one-time setup fee for each Account". Its pricing page says a one-time charge "may apply for businesses with complex needs". AnswerFirst publishes no amount for the fee.
Does AnswerFirst require a contract?
Its FAQ says it does not require you to sign a contract. Its terms tie your plan to a Contract Period set in your Proposal for Service, renewals can match that period, and dedicated agent programs carry a two-year minimum. Read the proposal before you sign it.
Does AnswerFirst charge for spam calls?
Yes. AnswerFirst's help center answers "The answer is YES" to whether spam, robocalls and solicitation calls are billed, at the live per-minute rate until the call ends. It also says it is unable to block phone numbers.
Does AnswerFirst charge extra for nights, weekends or holidays?
No. AnswerFirst's pricing page says "There are no additional fees for nights, weekends, or holidays." Transferred calls and voicemail are billed at a separate virtual rate that it does not publish.
Can I keep my phone number if I leave AnswerFirst?
Not by default. Its terms say assigned numbers remain AnswerFirst's property. To take a number you transferred in, you must give written notice within 5 business days of termination, and its help center says a transfer fee applies.
How these prices were read
Every price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page, on the date in its Source cell, and saved as a dated capture. Monthly plans use the cheapest published plan plus overage at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows the least upfront prepaid credit purchase covering that call volume; unused credits roll over. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices
- Clarified Alert Communications and Nexa trial summaries from "None" to "None found": the reviewed public pages do not offer trial terms, but do not establish that no private offer exists.
- AnswerConnect and LEX Reception priced from their own /plans-direct pages, including setup fees and larger plans. PATLive added its 2,000 to 5,000-minute tiers. AnswerAmerica added with exact prepaid credit packages; comparison costs show the least upfront package purchase covering the call volume, with unused credits rolling over. Its terms charge wrong numbers and hangups, contrary to its price page. ReceptionHQ MessageExpress named in full. Specialty Answering Service cancellation summary and setup-fee summaries corrected. AI product terms added for Go Answer, Moneypenny and Smith.ai. The initial AnswerForce text capture appeared to stop at 1,000 minutes; the larger plans were later found in saved page JavaScript.
- Published plans that were on pages already read but missing here. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus added as its own live row (messages and call transfers, no scope note; read October 5, 2026): from $35 a month plus $2.99 a call to $2,440 for 1,000 calls, from its ReceptionistPlus page and the price table in ReceptionHQ's terms (read October 7, 2026), with its own billing terms ($0.30 a call after hours, $0.30 per transfer). ReceptionHQ (MessageExpress, still message-taking only): 150, 250, 350 and 450 calls ($250, $395, $540 and $675) from the same terms table. Specialty Answering Service: 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($2,929, $5,649 and $10,599, overage $1.19 to $1.09 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026), and hold time added to what its per-minute billing covers, from its rates page (read October 7, 2026). Go Answer: 1,700, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($1,870, $2,750, $5,500 and $11,000, overage $1.40 and $1.25 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026). Ruby: 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 minutes ($4,945, $6,400 and $7,875, overage $3.50 to $3.30 a minute) from its help center (read October 7, 2026).
- Plans and rates that were on the captured pages but missing here: My AI Front Desk overage $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01), Go Answer 750 minutes ($825), AnswerForce 800 minutes ($1,069), ReceptionHQ MessageExpress 400 and 500 calls ($610 and $725), and ReceptionHQ's $0.20 after-hours surcharge per MessageExpress call.
- Billing terms added for 18 providers from their terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial. Alert Communications added (law firms only, kept out of the ranges). AnswerForce prices added from its /plans-direct page (Intro $349 for 200 minutes, Best value $389 for 300). VoiceNation now redirects to Moneypenny.
- Sameday AI added (home services only, read October 5, 2026): Launch from $449/month with 500 minutes, Scale from $789/month with 1,000 minutes. Like Slang.ai, it is listed but kept out of the category ranges because it serves one vertical.
- First edition: 30 providers read from their own pricing pages. AnswerConnect, AnswerForce, LEX Reception, Answering Legal and Nexa ask for a form or a sales call before showing a price, so they are listed as quote only. VoiceNation publishes the same plan table as Moneypenny (US), so that table is listed once, under Moneypenny.
