  • A base plan can include Spanish yet limit live Spanish hours: PATLive publishes daytime Spanish hours, while ReceptionHQ excludes overnight live Spanish.
  • AnswerConnect charges extra for Spanish call answering; Go Answer includes bilingual agents but charges extra for a dedicated bilingual receptionist.
  • Compare the base cost with a written quote for Spanish routing, overnight coverage, transfers and bilingual intake before signing.

Our arithmetic: each monthly vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows upfront cash for enough prepaid credits, not a monthly fee; unused credits roll over. Taxes, pass-through fees, setup fees and Spanish add-ons are not included. How we price.

The AI costs use the same three-minute call assumption and each vendor's cheapest computable published plan for the volume. A "not computable" cell means the vendor omits the needed rate.

These are base costs, not promises that every provider will answer the priced call in Spanish. We verified English/Spanish service terms for 16 priced live and hybrid rows; the other priced live rows, AnswerAmerica and AnswerFirst, remain cost context. The Spanish terms below come from each vendor's service page, FAQ or contract. A blank price for Spanish means the vendor has not published that add-on's amount. Answering Legal and Nexa publish no base plan price, so their cost cells read "Quote only". Alert Communications serves law firms alone. AnswerConnect, LEX Reception and AnswerForce share AnywhereWorks as their contracting company, so a buyer comparing them is comparing brands under one owner. Who owns which answering service documents the ties.

What Spanish answering includes, and when it stops

"Bilingual" can mean an agent answers either language, a standard receptionist transfers Spanish callers to a bilingual team, or a separate Spanish line routes callers directly. These are different call experiences. Get the exact routing path in writing, including what happens when the Spanish team is unavailable. For urgent calls, test the full flow, from greeting through message, transfer and dispatch, during the hours you actually need.

The conflicts matter more than the label. PATLive's help center says "Spanish Support: Available from 8 am to 10 pm ET" while English is available at all hours (PATLive bilingual services, read October 7, 2026). The same article says "All the messages we take will be written in English", including a call handled in Spanish. If your team needs a Spanish written message for follow-up, ask for a sample before buying.

Posh's FAQ guarantees Spanish Monday through Friday between 9am and 6pm Eastern and says outside that window Spanish help depends on staff availability (Posh FAQ, read October 7, 2026). Its bilingual service page instead starts the weekday window at 8am Eastern (read October 7, 2026). Treat the narrower guarantee as the safe planning assumption and ask Posh which statement controls your plan.

Ruby's pricing page says Spanish handling is available around the clock, and its bilingual help article describes service on every day of the year. Ruby's FAQ instead limits bilingual service to weekday business hours (all read October 7, 2026). Ask Ruby to put the live Spanish schedule in the order before routing an overnight line.

ReceptionHQ says live Spanish staff are available from 5am to 7pm Mountain Standard Time on all days except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. "Outside these hours, live backup is provided by our English-speaking team" (ReceptionHQ FAQ, read October 7, 2026). Its per-call plans can answer overnight, but that is a different promise from overnight Spanish. Weekend and federal-holiday Spanish calls also carry its after-hours surcharge.

Which vendors charge more for Spanish?

AnswerConnect: Its bilingual page says Spanish routing has "a small additional charge per month" (AnswerConnect bilingual answering, read October 7, 2026). The pricing PDF, read October 9, 2026, names Spanish Call Answering as an add-on with a starting monthly charge. The base cost in our table excludes it, so request the current amount for your call pattern.

Go Answer: The live pricing page includes "Bilingual Agents" but separately lists "Dedicated Bilingual Receptionist" as a per-minute add-on (Go Answer live pricing, read October 5, 2026). Standard access and dedicated routing are different purchases. Its FAQ, read October 7, 2026, also says French and Spanish speaking receptionists cannot be used as translators.

Smith.ai: On a standard line, Smith.ai says it will transfer a Spanish caller "at no extra cost to you". A dedicated Spanish line has a separate per-call charge and plan-specific monthly figures (Smith.ai bilingual help, read October 7, 2026). Ask whether a transfer to the bilingual team counts as one answered call or creates any other billable event.

Specialty Answering Service: The registration FAQ says a Spanish line becomes a "sub account" after trial and is billed under the sub-account rules (SAS registration FAQ, read October 7, 2026). Its translation help also warns of programming fees when an existing script is translated (read October 7, 2026). The base cost in our table excludes those charges.

Answering Service Care: Its pricing page, read October 9, 2026, says bilingual operators are included in all plans, but the plan cards sell "Live Multilingual" as a per-minute extra. Its bilingual page, read October 9, 2026, names English and Spanish. The pages do not say whether the paid option applies to Spanish or other languages. Ask for the line item on a Spanish call in the quote.

ReceptionHQ: Its FAQ says Spanish bilingual service is included with every account, then says after-hours surcharges apply on weekends and federal holidays (ReceptionHQ FAQ, read October 7, 2026). The surcharge belongs in the expected bill when your Spanish calls cluster on those days. ReceptionHQ pricing explains the call and transfer charges separately.

How billing units change a bilingual bill

Per minute. PATLive sells $479/month for 300 minutes. At 100 three-minute calls, its cheapest plan costs $479 before any extra charges. Ruby costs $1,160 for the same usage. A longer Spanish intake consumes more minutes on both, and Ruby rounds each call up to a whole minute. The price comparison holds for base service, while the Spanish availability questions above remain open.

Per call. Smith.ai Virtual Receptionists charges $810/month for 90 calls and $10.50 a call beyond the allowance. The base plan costs $915 at 100 calls. Its dedicated Spanish line is a separate charge, and the vendor's receptionist terms require extended intake to average no more than 120 seconds. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus costs $260 for that same volume before transfer or after-hours fees.

Prepaid calls. AnswerAmerica needs $150 upfront to cover 100 message-taking calls with credits that roll over. Its base cost is a useful budget floor, but the reviewed vendor file does not establish a live Spanish answering commitment. Do not use that price as a bilingual quote.

Pay as you go. MAP Communications publishes $49/month plus $1.37 a minute. It says English and Spanish fluency is included in every plan and describes bilingual live agents at night, on weekends and on holidays (MAP bilingual service, read October 7, 2026). At 50 calls, its calculated base cost is $211.50; at 200 calls it is $777. Its terms bill after-call work, so a detailed Spanish message may use more minutes than talk time alone.

The answering service cost guide compares all billing models. Enter your own calls and average duration in the cost calculator. The standardized table here assumes 3 minutes per call; test a second scenario with your actual Spanish intake duration.

Which bilingual service fits the call pattern?

Weekday Spanish with no published language add-on: PATLive

PATLive says bilingual answering has no extra charge and publishes a defined Spanish window. At 100 three-minute calls its base cost is $479, below Ruby's $1,160 for the same usage. PATLive may not fit callers who need live Spanish after its posted Spanish hours, or a message written in Spanish. Its six-second billing increment still has a one-minute minimum per call.

Spanish across nights and weekends: MAP Communications

MAP says bilingual agents answer around the clock, including nights, weekends and holidays. At 50 three-minute calls the base cost is $211.50; at 100 it is $403. The fit depends on whether the agent can follow your escalation script. MAP bills time spent completing information after the caller hangs up, so request a real call-flow quote, not just the rate card.

Dedicated Spanish routing: Go Answer or Smith.ai

Go Answer includes bilingual agents in its base service and sells dedicated bilingual receptionist time separately. At 100 three-minute calls the base cost is $345, below PATLive's $479. Smith.ai offers standard transfer without a Spanish charge, or a dedicated Spanish line with its own fee. At 100 calls, Smith.ai's base live plan costs $915. Neither base figure includes the dedicated option, so compare the vendor's written add-on quote with the call flow you need.

Spanish with live transfers on a per-call plan: ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus

At 100 three-minute calls ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus costs $260 before transfer and after-hours charges, below PATLive's $479. Per-call billing keeps the plan charge stable when a Spanish conversation runs longer. The catch is live Spanish coverage: its published daytime window does not include overnight hours, and weekends and federal holidays carry an extra charge.

Questions to put in the quote

Ask the vendor to write down the language spoken at greeting, whether a standard agent transfers to a Spanish team, who handles a call if that team is busy, and whether the message is delivered in English or Spanish. Include your actual timezone and weekend schedule. Have the vendor state the cost of a dedicated Spanish line, bilingual routing, after-hours calls and live transfers on the same quote. Then ask whether wrong numbers, spam, hold time and after-call note-taking use the same billing unit. The hidden fees guide covers the charges that a base plan leaves out.

For a legal intake line, ask whether a Spanish caller can complete the entire intake in Spanish and whether the receptionist may interpret or only route and record. Bilingual legal intake addresses the separate script and escalation questions. For night calls, compare the actual coverage window in the after-hours answering guide, not the label on a vendor's home page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Spanish bilingual answering service cost per month?

At 100 three-minute calls, published live base plans and prepaid packages cost $150 to $1,160 (prices checked October 12, 2026). Spanish add-ons, after-hours fees and transfers are outside that range. Ask each vendor for a quote using the same call volume and language schedule.

Does bilingual answering cost extra?

Sometimes. AnswerConnect sells Spanish call answering as an add-on, while Go Answer includes bilingual agents but charges for a dedicated bilingual receptionist. PATLive and Moneypenny say their standard English and Spanish service has no extra bilingual charge. A base plan price alone cannot settle which routing option your business needs.

Can a bilingual answering service answer Spanish calls overnight?

It depends on the vendor's Spanish hours. MAP Communications describes bilingual agents on nights and weekends; PATLive limits Spanish support to a published daily window, and ReceptionHQ says its overnight live backup speaks English. Posh's stated Spanish guarantee covers weekdays, while Ruby's own pages conflict about its Spanish schedule. Confirm the overnight path in writing.

Is Spanish answering the same as translation?

No. Go Answer's FAQ says its French and Spanish speaking receptionists cannot be used as translators, and Specialty Answering Service says the same about its Spanish agents. Define whether you need a call answered, a message taken, a live transfer or a translated document before comparing plans.

Which bilingual answering service is best for a small business?

Choose from the call pattern: MAP Communications publishes night and weekend bilingual staffing, PATLive publishes its Spanish window and no bilingual upcharge, and ReceptionHQ offers per-call pricing with daytime Spanish coverage. Compare each at your call volume, then require a written Spanish schedule and fee quote. A generic best label does not answer those two terms.

How these prices were read

Every price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page, on the date in its Source cell, and saved as a dated capture. Monthly plans use the cheapest published plan plus overage at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows the least upfront prepaid credit purchase covering that call volume; unused credits roll over. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus added as its own live row (messages and call transfers, no scope note; read October 5, 2026): from $35 a month plus $2.99 a call to $2,440 for 1,000 calls, from its ReceptionistPlus page and the price table in ReceptionHQ's terms (read October 7, 2026), with its own billing terms ($0.30 a call after hours, $0.30 per transfer). ReceptionHQ (MessageExpress, still message-taking only): 150, 250, 350 and 450 calls ($250, $395, $540 and $675) from the same terms table. Specialty Answering Service: 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($2,929, $5,649 and $10,599, overage $1.19 to $1.09 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026), and hold time added to what its per-minute billing covers, from its rates page (read October 7, 2026). Go Answer: 1,700, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($1,870, $2,750, $5,500 and $11,000, overage $1.40 and $1.25 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026). Ruby: 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 minutes ($4,945, $6,400 and $7,875, overage $3.50 to $3.30 a minute) from its help center (read October 7, 2026).
  • Plans and rates that were on the captured pages but missing here: My AI Front Desk overage $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01), Go Answer 750 minutes ($825), AnswerForce 800 minutes ($1,069), ReceptionHQ MessageExpress 400 and 500 calls ($610 and $725), and ReceptionHQ's $0.20 after-hours surcharge per MessageExpress call.
  • Billing terms added for 18 providers from their terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial. Alert Communications added (law firms only, kept out of the ranges). AnswerForce prices added from its /plans-direct page (Intro $349 for 200 minutes, Best value $389 for 300). VoiceNation now redirects to Moneypenny.
  • Ruby: overage rates added from its help center ($5.40/min on the 50-minute plan down to $3.65 on 1,000 minutes), plus the 350, 750 and 1,000 minute plans published there. Ruby's pricing page still shows no overage rate. Abby Professional overage corrected to $2.99 per Abby Minute (its terms and help center), from $3.00 computed as price divided by minutes.
  • Sameday AI added (home services only, read October 5, 2026): Launch from $449/month with 500 minutes, Scale from $789/month with 1,000 minutes. Like Slang.ai, it is listed but kept out of the category ranges because it serves one vertical.
  • First edition: 30 providers read from their own pricing pages. AnswerConnect, AnswerForce, LEX Reception, Answering Legal and Nexa ask for a form or a sales call before showing a price, so they are listed as quote only. VoiceNation publishes the same plan table as Moneypenny (US), so that table is listed once, under Moneypenny.
