AnswerConnect Alternatives 2026: Answering Service Pricing Compared
Published . Updated . Prices checked October 12, 2026.

Key takeaways
- AnswerConnect costs $395 for 100 three-minute calls a month on its cheapest published plan for that volume (prices checked October 9, 2026).
- AnswerConnect's pricing PDF says "no contracts, no notice period"; its terms set a 90-day minimum, written notice to cancel, and bill a partial month in full.
- With call transfers, ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus costs least in our table at 50, 100 and 200 calls. On per-minute plans, Go Answer costs least at 100 and 200 calls, MAP Communications at 50.
- LEX Reception and AnswerForce are not alternatives: their terms, like AnswerConnect's, are a contract with AnywhereWorks, Inc., with the same rounding and billing clause.

AnswerConnect costs $395 for 100 three-minute calls a month on its cheapest published plan for that volume (prices checked October 9, 2026). The alternatives in our table run from $170 for ReceptionHQ's message-only plan to $1,160 for Ruby. Rounding, after-call work and exit terms can change the bill.
What does AnswerConnect cost?
AnswerConnect's public Plans & Pricing link opens a form headed "Get your quote." It asks for a name, company, email and phone number before showing a plan (answerconnect.com/view-pricing, read October 9, 2026).
AnswerConnect also lists plans with prices on answerconnect.com/plans-direct and in a pricing PDF linked from it (both read October 9, 2026). Entry starts at $350/month (200 minutes). At 50, 100 and 200 three-minute calls a month, its cheapest published plans cost $350, $395 and $887.50 before setup fees and add-ons. Three lines from those documents change the bill:
- Setup fee: the Entry and Standard plans show a setup fee, and Growth shows none. The PDF says every plan carries a setup fee. The indexed plan summary is $49.99 on Entry and Standard; none on Growth.
- Spanish: the PDF lists "Spanish Call Answering" under "Extra paid add-ons". AnswerConnect's bilingual page calls it "a small additional charge per month."
- Live transfers: "Live Operator Relay" is a paid add-on in the same PDF.
More plan and billing terms are on the AnswerConnect pricing page. It is not CCH AnswerConnect, the tax research product.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Taxes, pass-through fees, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
100 three-minute calls are 300 minutes. Go Answer charges $345/month for 300 minutes on Virtual Receptionist 300, so 100 calls cost $345. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus bills the call, not the minute: $260/month for 100 calls, plus a fee on each transfer.
Nexa shows no price without a form; it owns Alert Communications. LEX Reception and AnswerForce are left out of the table on purpose, for the reason below.
LEX Reception and AnswerForce: same company, same contract
Moving to LEX Reception or AnswerForce keeps you with the same company. Each brand's terms name the same party:
- AnswerConnect: "a contract between you and AnywhereWorks, Inc. dba AnswerConnect" (answerconnect.com/termsofservice, read October 7, 2026)
- LEX Reception: "a contract between you and AnywhereWorks, Inc. dba LEX Reception" (lexreception.com/termsofservice, read October 7, 2026)
- AnswerForce: "a contract between you and AnywhereWorks, Inc. dba AnswerForce" (answerforce.com/termsofservice, read October 7, 2026)
The billing clause is nearly word for word the same in all three: "You acknowledge that you will be charged in whole-minute increments", with billable time covering "hold time and time spent patching a customer call forward." All three publish the same short-call rule: the first 30 calls under 30 seconds each month are free.
Where the three contracts differ is the exit. AnswerConnect's and AnswerForce's terms say "This Agreement will be in effect for a minimum period of 90 calendar days." LEX Reception's US terms carry no such sentence: "This Agreement will continue on a month-to-month basis until you or AW terminates it" (same URLs). LEX's Canadian terms set "a minimum period of 30 calendar days."
AnswerForce shows its plans without a form, on its own /plans-direct page: 100 three-minute calls cost $389 there. That is AnswerForce's price, not a quote from AnswerConnect. More on the group in who owns which answering service.
What each alternative does better and worse than AnswerConnect
AnswerConnect rounds every call up to the whole minute and bills "any after-call work our receptionists complete to process your message" (answerconnect.com help center, read October 7, 2026).
Abby Connect
Better: no 90-day minimum and 30-second rather than whole-minute rounding. At 100 three-minute calls, its published cost is $898.
Worse: the 30 seconds apply to a total that "includes ring time, talk time, and transfer time" (abby.com terms, read October 7, 2026).
ReceptionHQ (messages only)
Better: the lowest cost in the table at 50, 100 and 200 calls: $90, $170 and $325. Cancelling takes an email 3 days before renewal.
Worse: it takes messages and does not transfer calls. Misdials and hang-ups "qualify as inbound calls and may result in Usage Charges" (receptionhq.com terms, read October 7, 2026). More on the ReceptionHQ pricing page.
ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus
Better: the lowest cost in the table for a service that transfers calls: $260 at 100 calls, $505 at 200.
Worse: each transfer carries a fee, and "Extended call durations will require a Plus Pack" (receptionhq.com terms, read October 7, 2026). Calls outside 5am to 7pm Phoenix time on weekdays, and all weekend, carry an after-hours surcharge.
Smith.ai Virtual Receptionists
Better: per-call billing, so a long call costs the same as a short one within its intake limit. Spam and misdials are not counted when your lines "pass Caller ID" (smith.ai/pricing/receptionists, read October 5, 2026).
Worse: $915 at 100 calls, and cancelling needs notice "at least thirty (30) days prior to the end of the current subscription cycle" (smith.ai terms, read October 7, 2026).
Alert Communications (law firms only)
Better: a legal-only service that publishes prices; its plans start at $240/month (100 minutes). Its terms have no 90-day minimum.
Worse: the same whole-minute rounding, plus "System time ... billed as a percentage of work and/or talk time" (alertcommunications.com terms, read October 7, 2026). It is owned by Nexa.
Answering Service Care
Better: $774 at 200 calls, with plans on its pricing page and no form.
Worse: whole-minute rounding from the moment a call reaches its system, and "Cancellation by Client shall be provided in writing at least one (1) full billing period in advance" (answeringservicecare.com terms, read October 9, 2026).
AnswerFirst
Better: billing by the second, with hold and ring time left off the meter. See the AnswerFirst pricing page.
Worse: $510 to $615 at 100 calls, and spam is billed. Asked "Am I billed for spam, robo calls and solicitation calls?", its help center says "The answer is YES." (support.answerfirst.com, read October 7, 2026)
Go Answer
Better: $345 at 100 calls and $700 at 200, the lowest of the per-minute services in the table at both volumes. It bills by the second.
Worse: numbers "always remain the property of Go Answer", even ones you transferred in (goanswer.io/terms-conditions, read October 7, 2026). Details on the Go Answer pricing page.
MAP Communications
Better: $211.50 at 50 calls, the lowest of the per-minute services in the table at that volume.
Worse: whole-minute rounding, and billable time includes work "after the caller has hung up, or we perform other work on your account" with no cap (mapcommunications.com/terms, read October 7, 2026).
Moneypenny (US)
Better: after-call work has a published ceiling, "180 seconds per call", and rounding is to 30 seconds.
Worse: $613 at 100 calls. Cancel after the 1st of a month and "the Customer will be responsible for payment of another full month" (Moneypenny US terms, read October 7, 2026).
Nexa
Better: no minimum term in its terms; cancelling takes written notice "at least 1 month prior to your next invoice due date" (nexa.com terms, read October 7, 2026).
Worse: quote only, while AnswerConnect publishes prices on its plans-direct page. Nexa's terms add a "Holiday-related fee" on eight holidays and let an AI agent answer calls unless you opt out in writing.
PATLive
Better: nothing is billed after the receptionist leaves the call: "You are not billed for anytime a call sits in queue waiting for a receptionist, or for any time after a receptionist is disconnected." (patlive.com/terms-of-use, read October 7, 2026)
Worse: $479 at 100 calls, and numbers left on the account "become property of PATLive and may not be available for porting or reuse once a cancellation is effective" (same terms).
Posh
Better: no setup fee, a free trial with no card, and month-to-month terms with no minimum.
Worse: $630 at 100 calls, and the same whole-minute rule: "Service usage is measured and billed in 60-second increments and call times are rounded up to the next 60-second increment." (posh.com/terms, read October 7, 2026)
Ruby
Better: talk time after a transfer is not billed, and robocalls caught by its opt-in filter are free.
Worse: the dearest in the table at 50, 100 and 200 calls, $1,160 at 100. Calls are "rounded up to the next 60-second mark" (ruby.com/terms, read October 7, 2026).
Specialty Answering Service
Better: billing by the second, and robocalls, faxes and dead air are capped: "The following call types are limited to 30 seconds of billable time" (SAS help center, read October 7, 2026). See the Specialty Answering Service pricing page.
Worse: "If you terminate services, you are not permitted to port-away the telephone number" (specialtyansweringservice.net/terms, read October 7, 2026).
Where AnswerConnect is still the better buy
Nights, weekends and holidays at no surcharge. "You get 24/7/365 coverage at no extra charge." (answerconnect.com, read October 7, 2026) ReceptionHQ adds a fee per call outside weekday hours, and Nexa's terms add a holiday fee.
No charge for queue time. "You also won't be charged for queue time between a call reaching our system and a receptionist answering it." (answerconnect.com help center, read October 7, 2026) Abby Connect bills ring time; Answering Service Care starts its meter when a call reaches its system.
More recourse when a call goes wrong. AnswerConnect's terms cap its liability at what you paid it over the 12 months before the problem (answerconnect.com/termsofservice, read October 7, 2026). Ruby's terms cap a credit "to a maximum of 15 days or five hundred dollars", whichever is less (ruby.com/terms, read October 7, 2026), and MAP and Posh use the same cap.
Price at named volumes. At 100 three-minute calls, AnswerConnect costs $395, below PATLive at $479, MAP Communications at $403 and Answering Service Care at $409. At 200 calls, AnswerConnect costs $887.50, below PATLive at $938. Setup fees and add-ons are excluded from these figures.
Which alternative fits which situation
Best for message-taking onlyReceptionHQ
At $170 for 100 calls, it costs least of every service in the table at 50, 100 and 200 calls. It does not fit if callers need to reach you live: it takes messages only.
Best price with call transfers: ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus
$260 for 100 calls, the lowest in the table for a service that transfers, at 50, 100 and 200 calls. It may not fit long intake calls, which need a paid Plus Pack, or a business that transfers most calls at a fee each.
Best per-minute plan at 100 and 200 calls: Go Answer
$345 at 100 calls and $700 at 200, less than every other per-minute service in the table. At 50 calls MAP Communications costs less, $211.50, and Specialty Answering Service $231, against $262.50 for Go Answer. It does not fit if you need to keep the number it assigns.
Best for short calls and robocallsSpecialty Answering Service
By-the-second billing with robocalls capped at 30 billable seconds, at $384.20 for 100 calls, more than Go Answer there. It does not fit if you want to keep its number.
How to switch from AnswerConnect without losing calls or your number
- Count the 90 days. "This Agreement will be in effect for a minimum period of 90 calendar days. Following that period, either you or AW may terminate this Agreement at any time" by written notice (answerconnect.com/termsofservice, read October 7, 2026). AnswerConnect's PDF says "No hidden fees, no contracts, no notice period." The terms are the contract.
- Time the notice to the billing date. AnswerConnect bills ahead: "You'll be billed on the same date each month for your usage during the upcoming month" (answerconnect.com help center, read October 7, 2026). The terms charge "each whole or partial month during which this Agreement remains in effect", so end it just before a billing date.
- Check whose number callers dial. AnswerConnect patches calls "to the telephone number(s) that you provide to AW", so a number you forward stays yours. Its terms do not say who keeps a business number AnswerConnect gives you: ask in writing before you cancel.
- Set up the new service while AnswerConnect still answers, test it, then move your call forwarding.
- Tell AnswerConnect in writing which numbers to stop. The terms ask you to "inform AW immediately and in writing" if a number "should no longer receive patched calls". Check the final invoice: overage is charged to the card "immediately".
Contract terms side by side: month-to-month answering services. Every service at the same volumes: answering service pricing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is cheaper than AnswerConnect?
At 100 three-minute calls a month, AnswerConnect costs $395. The lower-priced alternatives in our table are ReceptionHQ MessageExpress at $170 (messages only), ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus at $260 before transfer fees, Go Answer at $345 and Specialty Answering Service at $384.20. Are LEX Reception and AnswerForce alternatives to AnswerConnect?
No. All three are brands of AnywhereWorks, Inc., and each one's terms of service name AnywhereWorks, Inc. as the party to your contract. They share the whole-minute rounding and the 30 free calls under 30 seconds a month. AnswerConnect and AnswerForce also share a 90-day minimum term.
Does AnswerConnect have a contract?
Yes, a 90-day one. Its terms say "This Agreement will be in effect for a minimum period of 90 calendar days," then either side can end it with written notice. Its pricing PDF says "no contracts, no notice period," but the terms are what you sign.
Does AnswerConnect charge a setup fee?
The Entry and Standard plans show a setup fee, and Growth says "No setup fee" on AnswerConnect's plans page (read October 9, 2026). Its pricing PDF says every plan carries one, a contradiction worth confirming before signing.
Does AnswerConnect charge extra for Spanish?

No. AnswerConnect the answering service is sold by AnywhereWorks, Inc., according to its terms of service. CCH AnswerConnect is a tax research product that shares the name.
How these prices were read
Every price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page, on the date in its Source cell, and saved as a dated capture. Monthly plans use the cheapest published plan plus overage at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows the least upfront prepaid credit purchase covering that call volume; unused credits roll over. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices
- Clarified Alert Communications and Nexa trial summaries from "None" to "None found": the reviewed public pages do not offer trial terms, but do not establish that no private offer exists.
- Added AnswerForce published 1,200, 1,500, 2,000, 3,500, 5,000 and 10,000-minute plans from the pricing page JavaScript captured October 7, 2026. Each lists $1.85 per additional minute or chat. A prior pass missed these plans because its text capture stopped at 1,000 minutes.
- AnswerConnect and LEX Reception priced from their own /plans-direct pages, including setup fees and larger plans. PATLive added its 2,000 to 5,000-minute tiers. AnswerAmerica added with exact prepaid credit packages; comparison costs show the least upfront package purchase covering the call volume, with unused credits rolling over. Its terms charge wrong numbers and hangups, contrary to its price page. ReceptionHQ MessageExpress named in full. Specialty Answering Service cancellation summary and setup-fee summaries corrected. AI product terms added for Go Answer, Moneypenny and Smith.ai. The initial AnswerForce text capture appeared to stop at 1,000 minutes; the larger plans were later found in saved page JavaScript.
- Published plans that were on pages already read but missing here. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus added as its own live row (messages and call transfers, no scope note; read October 5, 2026): from $35 a month plus $2.99 a call to $2,440 for 1,000 calls, from its ReceptionistPlus page and the price table in ReceptionHQ's terms (read October 7, 2026), with its own billing terms ($0.30 a call after hours, $0.30 per transfer). ReceptionHQ (MessageExpress, still message-taking only): 150, 250, 350 and 450 calls ($250, $395, $540 and $675) from the same terms table. Specialty Answering Service: 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($2,929, $5,649 and $10,599, overage $1.19 to $1.09 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026), and hold time added to what its per-minute billing covers, from its rates page (read October 7, 2026). Go Answer: 1,700, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($1,870, $2,750, $5,500 and $11,000, overage $1.40 and $1.25 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026). Ruby: 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 minutes ($4,945, $6,400 and $7,875, overage $3.50 to $3.30 a minute) from its help center (read October 7, 2026).
- Plans and rates that were on the captured pages but missing here: My AI Front Desk overage $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01), Go Answer 750 minutes ($825), AnswerForce 800 minutes ($1,069), ReceptionHQ MessageExpress 400 and 500 calls ($610 and $725), and ReceptionHQ's $0.20 after-hours surcharge per MessageExpress call.
- Billing terms added for 18 providers from their terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial. Alert Communications added (law firms only, kept out of the ranges). AnswerForce prices added from its /plans-direct page (Intro $349 for 200 minutes, Best value $389 for 300). VoiceNation now redirects to Moneypenny.
- Ruby: overage rates added from its help center ($5.40/min on the 50-minute plan down to $3.65 on 1,000 minutes), plus the 350, 750 and 1,000 minute plans published there. Ruby's pricing page still shows no overage rate. Abby Professional overage corrected to $2.99 per Abby Minute (its terms and help center), from $3.00 computed as price divided by minutes.
- Sameday AI added (home services only, read October 5, 2026): Launch from $449/month with 500 minutes, Scale from $789/month with 1,000 minutes. Like Slang.ai, it is listed but kept out of the category ranges because it serves one vertical.
- First edition: 30 providers read from their own pricing pages. AnswerConnect, AnswerForce, LEX Reception, Answering Legal and Nexa ask for a form or a sales call before showing a price, so they are listed as quote only. VoiceNation publishes the same plan table as Moneypenny (US), so that table is listed once, under Moneypenny.
