After-Hours and 24/7 Answering Service Pricing for Personal Injury Law Firm Intake 2026
Published . Updated . Prices checked October 12, 2026.

Key takeaways
- At 100 three-minute calls, priced plans in our PI table run $260 to $1,160 (prices checked October 12, 2026); the low end limits intake details.
- The PI catch is the TV campaign: Answering Legal, PATLive and ReceptionHQ can refuse a trial tied to an ad campaign, and MAP, Posh and Alert may end service over ad-driven spikes.
- On per-minute plans, 300 billed minutes cost $345 at Go Answer and $479 at PATLive, before any legal intake add-on.
- Nights and weekends cost the same as weekdays at 14 of 15 live brands that publish a rule; Spanish hours at night are where they differ.
- Every vendor clause is quoted from its own terms with the date we read it, next to prices read from each pricing page.

As of October 12, 2026, priced services in our personal injury table cost $260 to $1,160 for 100 three-minute calls a month. The low end captures limited details per call; intake length, night rules and TV campaign spikes can change the bill.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Taxes, pass-through fees, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
Answering Legal requires a quote. LEX Reception and AnswerConnect publish prices on direct plan pages although their usual pricing paths ask for contact details. They share an owner: both contracts are with "AnywhereWorks, Inc." (lexreception.com/termsofservice, read October 7, 2026). Alert Communications publishes no overage rate, so its costs come from $2.50 a minute, pay as you go. All practice areas: answering services for law firms.
What a long personal injury intake call costs per minute
Per-minute services bill call length. Answering Legal says so of its own plans: "A thirty-minute call with a new client might be a big hit" (answeringlegal.com blog, read October 7, 2026). LEX Reception's PI script runs to "Jurisdiction, statute of limitations, case type eligibility" (lexreception.com, read October 7, 2026), all of it talk time.
So this table prices billed minutes, for any call length: ten 30-minute intakes and 100 three-minute calls are both 300 billed minutes.
| Service | 150 billed minutes | 300 billed minutes | 600 billed minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| AnswerConnect | $350 | $395 | $887.50 |
| Go Answer | $262.50 | $345 | $700 |
| LEX Reception | $425 | $450 | $1,000 |
| MAP Communications | $211.50 | $403 | $777 |
| PATLive | $293.50 | $479 | $938 |
| Posh | $322.50 | $630 | $1,170 |
| Ruby | $620 | $1,160 | $2,125 |
Same arithmetic as the first table, whose 50, 100 and 200 columns are 150, 300 and 600 minutes; Alert Communications and AnswerFirst are priced there.
Ten 30-minute intakes fill PATLive's plan of $479/month for 300 minutes; twenty move you to the 600-minute column. Two charges sit outside these numbers: Go Answer's paid legal intake add-on (goanswer.io pricing, read October 5, 2026), and Alert's retainer-signing charge on Premier (alertcommunications.com/plans, read October 7, 2026).
Per-call plans are flat for short calls. Smith.ai's PI page says "a long new-client call costs the same as a short one" (smith.ai, read October 7, 2026), while its policy says Extended Intake "cannot exceed an average of 120 seconds" (smith.ai reasonable use policy, read October 7, 2026). ReceptionHQ can move a per-call account to a per-minute plan if "inbound call durations are in any way excessive or unreasonable" (receptionhq.com terms, read October 7, 2026). See legal intake answering service pricing.

Night and weekend terms for 24/7 personal injury intake
14 of 15 live answering brands that publish a night and weekend rule charge the same rate around the clock. The counted exception is ReceptionHQ MessageExpress (vendor terms, read October 5 to 9, 2026). ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus, also in our price table, adds a fee to calls "outside of 5am to 7pm Monday to Friday local time in Phoenix, Arizona" (receptionhq.com terms, read October 7, 2026), so every weekend, and "overnight calls are handled by our equally skilled, English-speaking team in Australia" (receptionhq.com/faqs, read October 7, 2026).
3 of 16 live and hybrid services that publish a holiday rule charge one: MAP Communications, Nexa and ReceptionHQ MessageExpress (vendor terms, read October 5 to 9, 2026). Alert's terms carry Nexa's unpriced "Holiday-related fee" (alertcommunications.com terms, read October 7, 2026).
Spanish is where night coverage differs:
- PATLive: Spanish is "Available from 8 am to 10 pm ET" (help.patlive.com, read October 7, 2026).
- Posh: guarantees Spanish "Monday through Friday between 9am and 6pm Eastern" (posh.com/faqs, read October 7, 2026).
- Ruby: bilingual service is "available Monday to Friday, 5am to 6pm Pacific / 8am to 9pm Eastern" (ruby.com/faqs, read October 7, 2026).
- MAP Communications: "Bilingual live agents answer calls 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays" (mapcommunications.com, read October 7, 2026). Alert Communications and LEX Reception also sell night Spanish coverage (read October 7, 2026).
TV campaigns: spike clauses and trial exclusions
Television, radio or billboard campaigns spike a PI firm's calls. The rate past your plan sets that month's bill, and the terms decide whether calls keep being answered.
| Service | 300 calls/mo | Plan near 100 calls | Past that plan | Ad-driven spikes, per the terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alert Communicationslaw firms only | $2,250 | $590/month for 250 minutes | Not published | May end service without notice |
| AnswerConnect | $1,325 | $395/month for 300 minutes | $1.85 a minute | No capacity guarantee for unexpected volume |
| AnswerFirst | $1,470 to $1,785 | $30/month plus $1.60 to $1.95 a minute | $1.60 to $1.95 a minute | Five business days' notice; may limit calls |
| Go Answer | $1,050 | $345/month for 300 minutes | $1.50 a minute | Five business days' notice; may limit calls |
| LEX Reception | $1,465 | $450/month for 300 minutes | $2.25 a minute | No capacity guarantee for unexpected volume |
| MAP Communications | $1,161 | $339/month for 250 minutes | $1.28 a minute | May end service without notice |
| PATLive | $1,475 | $479/month for 300 minutes | $1.89 a minute | Notify before TV or radio ads; may throttle |
| Posh | $1,755 | $700/month for 350 minutes | $2.00 a minute | May end service without notice |
| Ruby | $3,127.50 | $1,210/month for 350 minutes | $4.25 a minute | No ad clause found; an upgrade lasts three billing periods |
| ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus | $755 | $260/month for 100 calls | $2.99 a call | No ad clause found; no trial for ad campaigns |
| Smith.ai Virtual Receptionists | $2,100 | $810/month for 90 calls | $10.50 a call | No ad clause found; plan changes need 30 days' notice |
300 calls/mo: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume, at three-minute calls. "No ad clause found" means none in the terms we read on October 7, 2026.
At 300 three-minute calls, ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus costs $755, less than every other service in this table. Of the per-minute services in it, Go Answer costs less than the rest, at $1,050.
- MAP Communications, Posh and Alert Communications: service may end without notice if "your advertising is causing extreme fluctuations in call volume that adversely affects service to other customers" (mapcommunications.com/terms, posh.com/terms, read October 7, 2026). Alert's mass tort page meanwhile says "A single mass tort campaign can generate five thousand inbound calls in the first seventy-two hours after media placement." (alertcommunications.com, read October 7, 2026)
- PATLive: "If You intend to run television or radio ads ... You must notify PATLive in advance", and it may "throttle, redirect or reduce the priority of Your calls" (patlive.com/terms-of-use, read October 7, 2026).
- Go Answer: "Go Answer requires You to provide Us with at least five (5) business days' notice" and may "limit or restrict calls" (goanswer.io/terms-conditions, read October 7, 2026); AnswerFirst sets the same five days (answerfirst.com/terms-of-service, read October 7, 2026).
- Ruby: upgrades "apply to the then-current monthly billing period and at least the subsequent two consecutive billing periods" (ruby.com/terms, read October 7, 2026). Smith.ai plan changes "must be made not less than thirty (30) days prior to the end of the current subscription cycle" (smith.ai/receptionists/terms, read October 7, 2026).
- LEX Reception and AnswerConnect: "AW cannot and does not warrant that it will have sufficient resources to handle unexpected increases in call volumes" (lexreception.com/termsofservice, read October 7, 2026).
Three vendors rule out a free trial during a campaign:
- Answering Legal may refuse a trial if the firm "intends to use the free trial for an advertising campaign, i.e., TV, Web, Radio, Direct Mail, or any other method of increasing call volume", may end one after "more than 100 minutes of virtual receptionist time", and offers none "between December 15 thru January 4" (answeringlegal.com terms, read October 7, 2026).
- PATLive may refuse a trial "to anyone who intends to use the trial in connection with an advertising campaign such as TV, radio, direct mail" (patlive.com/terms-of-use, read October 7, 2026).
- ReceptionHQ: the trial "is not applicable for ... new Customers that require RHQ Services for promotional or advertising campaigns" (receptionhq.com terms, read October 7, 2026), and its night surcharge applies "except during a free trial" (receptionhq.com/faqs, read October 7, 2026), so a trial bill understates a month of night calls.
The catch for personal injury firms
Alert Communications: an AI may take the call, billed. "any time spent by the AI Agent initiating, answering or responding to calls, chats, or texts will be billed" unless you opt out "by providing written notice" (alertcommunications.com terms, read October 7, 2026). Nexa's terms say the same. Its strength: it publishes plan prices.
Answering Legal: the overage rate arrives with the contract. "You'll be charged a per-minute overage rate, detailed in your agreement" (answeringlegal.com help center, read October 7, 2026), and in a campaign month that rate sets the bill. Its strength: Spanish answering at "No extra fees" (answeringlegal.com help center, read October 7, 2026).
AnswerFirst: recordings may not last. Its FAQ says calls "are available for up to 90 days"; its terms say it "is not obligated to retain voice or call recordings for longer than ten (10) days" (answerfirst.com/faqs, answerfirst.com/terms-of-service, read October 7, 2026). Its strength: billing by the second.
Case management integrations personal injury firms ask about
| Service | PI tools named | How it connects, as the vendor states it | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alert Communications | Filevine, Lead Docket, CASEpeer | "We connect directly to Clio Grow, Filevine, Lead Docket, and CASEpeer" | alertcommunications.com, read October 7, 2026 |
| Answering Legal | Lead Docket | Direct: "Clio Grow, PracticePanther, Lawmatics, Smokeball, MyCase, Lead Docket" | answeringlegal.com, read October 7, 2026 |
| AnswerFirst | Law Ruler, Lead Docket | Listed; the Law Ruler page names "Marketing Source & Campaign Tracking" | answerfirst.com, read October 7, 2026 |
| LEX Reception | Filevine, CASEpeer | Filevine: "Simply connect through Zapier. No developer required." | lexreception.com, read October 7, 2026 |
Go Answer and Nexa show PI tool logos (Lead Docket, SmartAdvocate, Litify) without saying how they connect (goanswer.io, nexa.com, read October 7, 2026). A logo is not an integration. Clio: answering services that integrate with Clio.
Confidentiality and ethics: what the ABA rules ask of a firm
ABA Model Rule 5.3 asks a supervising lawyer to "make reasonable efforts to ensure that the person's conduct is compatible with the professional obligations of the lawyer", and its Comment 3 extends that to "nonlawyers outside the firm". Rule 1.6(c) asks for "reasonable efforts to prevent the inadvertent or unauthorized disclosure" of client information. Where AI answers, ABA Formal Opinion 512 (2024) covers lawyers' use of generative AI tools.
This page is not legal advice. Ask a vendor in writing: Will AI answer or summarize our calls, and how do we opt out? Who answers overnight, and where? How long are recordings kept?
Which answering service fits which personal injury situation
Best for short screening calls with transfersReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus
At 50, 100 and 200 three-minute calls, ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus costs $135, $260 and $505, less than any other service with a published price in the first table. It may not fit full intake: it captures "Up to 5 details" a call (receptionhq.com, read October 7, 2026), surcharges nights and weekends, and answers overnight from Australia.
Best for long intake calls billed by the minuteGo Answer
At 300 and 600 billed minutes a month, Go Answer costs $345 and $700, less than Alert Communications, AnswerConnect, AnswerFirst, LEX Reception, MAP Communications, PATLive, Posh and Ruby. It may not fit if you want its legal intake staff (the per-minute add-on) or launch campaigns at short notice.
Best for about 150 billed minutes, or Spanish at nightMAP Communications
At 150 billed minutes, MAP Communications costs $211.50, less than every other per-minute service in the long-call table; Go Answer costs $262.50, and costs less from 300 minutes. MAP sells Spanish around the clock for less than Alert Communications at 100 and 200 calls, but may end service over ad-driven spikes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an after-hours answering service cost for a personal injury firm?
At 100 three-minute calls a month, published plans in our PI table run from ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus at $260 to Ruby at $1,160 (prices checked October 12, 2026). At 200 calls, they run from $505 to $2,125. ReceptionHQ adds a per-call surcharge on nights and weekends, and its intake captures limited details.
Do answering services charge more for personal injury intake calls at night?
Rarely: 14 of 15 live answering brands that publish a night and weekend rule charge the same rate around the clock. ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus charges extra for those calls. Night staffing differs: PATLive's Spanish line runs 8 am to 10 pm ET, and ReceptionHQ answers overnight from Australia.
Can a personal injury firm use a free trial during a TV ad campaign?
Not everywhere. Answering Legal, PATLive and ReceptionHQ write into their terms that they may refuse a free trial meant for an advertising campaign, and Answering Legal offers no trial from December 15 to January 4.
How much does a 30-minute personal injury intake call cost on a per-minute plan?
Ten 30-minute intakes bill 300 minutes, which costs $345 at Go Answer and $479 at PATLive on prices checked October 12, 2026. Legal intake add-ons, setup fees and taxes are extra.
How these prices were read
Every price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page, on the date in its Source cell, and saved as a dated capture. Monthly plans use the cheapest published plan plus overage at 3-minute calls. AnswerAmerica shows the least upfront prepaid credit purchase covering that call volume; unused credits roll over. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Go Answer: 1,700, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 minutes ($1,870, $2,750, $5,500 and $11,000, overage $1.40 and $1.25 a minute) from its pricing page (read October 5, 2026). Ruby: 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 minutes ($4,945, $6,400 and $7,875, overage $3.50 to $3.30 a minute) from its help center (read October 7, 2026).
- Plans and rates that were on the captured pages but missing here: My AI Front Desk overage $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01), Go Answer 750 minutes ($825), AnswerForce 800 minutes ($1,069), ReceptionHQ MessageExpress 400 and 500 calls ($610 and $725), and ReceptionHQ's $0.20 after-hours surcharge per MessageExpress call.
- Billing terms added for 18 providers from their terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial. Alert Communications added (law firms only, kept out of the ranges). AnswerForce prices added from its /plans-direct page (Intro $349 for 200 minutes, Best value $389 for 300). VoiceNation now redirects to Moneypenny.
- Ruby: overage rates added from its help center ($5.40/min on the 50-minute plan down to $3.65 on 1,000 minutes), plus the 350, 750 and 1,000 minute plans published there. Ruby's pricing page still shows no overage rate. Abby Professional overage corrected to $2.99 per Abby Minute (its terms and help center), from $3.00 computed as price divided by minutes.
- Sameday AI added (home services only, read October 5, 2026): Launch from $449/month with 500 minutes, Scale from $789/month with 1,000 minutes. Like Slang.ai, it is listed but kept out of the category ranges because it serves one vertical.
- First edition: 30 providers read from their own pricing pages. AnswerConnect, AnswerForce, LEX Reception, Answering Legal and Nexa ask for a form or a sales call before showing a price, so they are listed as quote only. VoiceNation publishes the same plan table as Moneypenny (US), so that table is listed once, under Moneypenny.
